What happened in June
DIRT KARTS: Coming off a successful April, South Yunderup dirt kart racer “Smokin” Joe Chalmers backed up his results with two state title wins in South Australia.
BASKETBALL: Casey Mihovilovich returned to the Mandurah Magic women’s line-up, bolstering the side to a huge win over East Perth.
BASEBALL: Ashton Crouch, Caitlin Eynon and Rui Harrison were all picked to play for WA at the Australian Little League Championship in Lismore, New South Wales.
HOCKEY: Peel up and comer Luke Symington was awarded for his outstanding leadership at the under 15s Australian Hockey Championships, being presented with the WA culture award.
FOOTBALL: The Waroona Demons played their first game on home soil after the January bushfire left it in a ravaged state. They celebrated the homecoming with a win over the Falcons.
DARTS: Morehu Heta-Tohu fulfilled a 30-year dream of his when was chosen to play for WA at the Australian National Darts Championships.
BASKETBALL/NETBALL: Mandurah sports jet Ella Sigley was picked to represent WA in both basketball and netball.
FOOTBALL: Former WAFL footballers Brendon Jones and Paul Mugambwa headlined a long list of talent chosen to don the Peel Cavaliers jumper for the Landmark Country Football Championships.
FOOTBALL: The AFL announced Fremantle would represent WA in the new women’s league, opening doors for a number of Peel Thunderbirds.
BOWLS: Blind lawn bowler Jayne Parsons won gold at the national championships.
BOXING: Alex Winwood fell short in his quest for a Rio Olympics berth, going down in a qualifying event in Azerbaijan.
FOOTBALL: Seven Peel Thunder players were charged after a melee broke out in a game against South Fremantle.
FOOTBALL: The Peel Cavaliers took down the South West Football League in the first round of Landmark Country Football Championship matches.
BASKETBALL: A buzzer-beating three-point bomb from Trevor Setty lifted the Mandurah Magic to a win over Lakeside.
BASKETBALL: Eight Mandurah Basketball Association juniors were chosen to play for WA in the under 16 Junior National Championships in Victoria.
