Blind lawn bowler Jayne Parsons has returned home from the Australian national championships with a gold and bronze medal around her neck.
Travelling with husband and bowling partner Brent, Jayne claimed gold in the pairs and picked up a bronze title in the singles.
In the pairs, Jayne helped WA edge out Queensland in two matches, winning the first 13-2 and the second 9-5.
“Jayne was stoked to take out the pairs title – the greens were running really fast and are different to the synthetics we’re used to playing on, so it was nice to take out the gold,” Brent said.
“A storm washed us out for two of the days but overall the trip was really nice.”
In the singles, Jayne was out to retain her gold medal from last year’s tournament, but was still pleased with her third placing.
“We were a little disappointed we couldn’t bring the title back to WA but given the conditions third was still a good finish,” Brent said.
WA as a whole picked two gold medals, one silver and two bronze.
The pair now go into preparation for the world championships which will be held in South Africa next March.
“We’ll be training pretty much from now until the championships,” Brent said.
“We’re really looking forward to the trip and hopefully we can bring some medals home for Australia.”
