Former WAFL footballers Brendon Jones and Paul Mugambwa headline a long list of talent set to don the Peel Cavaliers jumper for the Landmark Country Football Championships.
The 30-man side features at least one player from seven of the eight Peel Football League clubs and will play it’s first game against reigning five-time champions the South West Football League on Sunday, June 19 at Hands Oval in Bunbury.
Head coach of the side Clayton Falkingham said the team was one of the best selected in recent memory.
“The entire selection panel has done a really good job – the side is strong and should be able to give the tournament a good shake,” he said.
“Our tall positions are well stocked and the runners we have on the ground are fast and skilled.
“Throw in some WAFL-experienced guys and the side looks really formidable.”
Joining Jones and Mugambwa in the side is a bunch of PFL talent.
Jesse Gribble (Halls Head), Josh Bowe (Halls Head) and Jacob Williams (Pinjarra) will all take on their former league when the PFL goes head to head with the SWFL on Sunday.
Halls Head and Pinjarra contribute the most names to the 30-man squad, both with eight players selected from their club.
Gribble, Bowe, Phillip Walshaw, Josh Gorman, Chad Humble, Travis Justins, Todd Hetherington and Joel Houghton were all selected from Halls Head, while Williams, Brennan Gillam, Mitchell Green, Callan Eddy, Tom Harper, Robert Beswick, Jarrod Bowman and Riese Wilkey will represent Pinjarra.
Despite being last on the PFL ladder without a win, the Mandurah Mustangs have contributed the second-highest amount of players to the side with four.
Lochlan Jones, Devin McFarlane, Kelvin Lawrence and Ryan Mulgrave were all selected from the Mustangs.
South Mandurah (Jones, Brad Holmes, Brodie Hobson), Waroona (Justin Guimelli, Clay Smith, Rhett Mason) and Baldivis (Emmanuel Collard, Aden Field and Callum Black) all had three players selected.
Mugambwa was the sole player selected from Centrals.
