PEEL hockey prodigy Luke Symington was awarded for his outstanding leadership at the under 15s Australian Hockey Championships last month.
Symington was presented with the WA culture award, given to a player who displays high moral value both on and off the field.
Coach Shaun Ray presented Luke with a new hockey stick and bag for his efforts.
Symington’s mother Alison, who made the trip to Wollongong to watch him play, said the award recognised Luke’s effort on the training track.
“We’ve been making trips to Perth every Saturday and Sunday since October for training sessions,” she said.
“It’s really good to see Luke rewarded for his effort.”
She said the trip was a proud moment for the Symington family.
“We’re really wrapped with how Luke competed throughout the entire tournament – he really but his best foot forward,”
The avid hockey player competes in in both the metropolitan and local hockey leagues, while also playing juniors for Halls Head Football Club.
