Seven Peel Thunder players have been charged with engaging in a melee after a brawl broke out against South Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Sunday.
Rory O’Brien, Tendai Mzungu, Matt de Boer, Benjamin Hancock, Blair Bell, Ed Langdon and Josh Deluca were all cited by the WAFL’s match review panel after engaging in a melee.
O’Brien, Mzungu, de Boer, Hancock, Bell and Langdon can all accept a $50 sanction with an early plea after being charged with their first offence, while Deluca can accept a $100 sanction as he has been charged with his second.
South Fremantle’s Shane Hockey, Mason Shaw, Ben Saunders, Brock Higgins, Steven Verrier, Jacob Martinez and Marlion Pickett were also cited for the melee.
Hockey, Shaw and Saunders can accept a $50 sanction, while Higgins and Verrier can take a $100 fine with an early plea.
Martinez and Pickett were both charged with their third offence and can accept a $200 sanction with an early guilty plea.
The melee broke out following a number of spotfires and physical encounters in wet conditions.
Peel’s Shane Yarran, in his first game back from a calf injury, found himself in the thick of the action a number of times throughout the second term.
