With the bumper year almost over, the Mandurah Mail is taking a look back at what made sports headlines in 2016.
Here is an overview of what we featured in our sports section in March.
What happened in March
CRICKET: Shoalwater Bay caused an upset in the Peel Cricket Association, beating Mandurah in the semi final and repeating the feat two weeks later to claim the 2015/16 premiership.
CRICKET: Shoalwater Bay returned to the pitch weeks later to win the Twenty20 grand final.
FOOTBALL: The Mandurah Mustangs and Mandurah Centrals joined forces, giving juniors a direct avenue to senior football.
ATHLETICS: Mandurah/Rockingham Athletics Club members Seaton Puzey and Chloe Leggett both picked up a pair of gold medals at the WA Athletics Championships.
CRICKET: Rockingham-Mandurah claimed a maiden premiership win in the WACA first grade.
CRICKET: The Peel Cricket Association defeated the Upper Great Southern to claim the Western Australia Country Twenty20 Cup.
SWIMMING: Peel Aquatic Club swimmer Rebekah Weller backed up her second placing in the female category of the Rottnest Channel Swim with a first in the 25-kilometre Port to Pub.
CRICKET: Singleton bowler Ian Bowes took out the Peel Cricket Association’s cricketer of the year award.
BASKETBALL: The Mandurah Magic unveiled American imports Trevor Setty, Annette Davis and Adijat Adams.
FOOTBALL: Peel Thunder lost its first game of the season to Subiaco, but local boy and Fremantle midfielder Harley Bennell starred with 23 touches and four goals.
BASKETBALL: The Mandurah Magic men started their season with a win over Geraldton.
BOXING: Alex Winwood missed out on qualifying for the Olympics at Asian and Oceania Championships in China.
