THE Peel Cricket Association defeated the Upper Great Southern to claim the Western Australia Country Twenty20 Cup on Monday.
It was the first time Peel had won the title since 2003 and the first time they have held both the Country Week titles and Country Cup total for 16 years.
The combined Peel side progressed through the pool stages to make the grand final, defeating the Esperance Cricket Association in the preliminary final on the Sunday in the last over.
Peel elected to bat first in the grand final but after losing opener Andrew Peckover for a duck looked to be in trouble.
Waroona pair Ben Wright and Jayden Derosa regained some momentum.
Derosa made a quick fire 10 from five balls while Wright was in for the long haul, anchoring the Peel innings with 41.
Byrce Evans chipped in with 20 while Mitchell Smith added 19 to help his side to 8/120 from their 20 overs.
The Peel side managed to dismiss Upper Great Southern batsmen at regular intervals with the side unable to chase down Peel’s total finishing on 9/106.
Daniel Abel was the pick of the bowlers with 2/19 while Smith was economical with 0/12 from his four overs.
Wright has awarded for his batting effort winning the Brad Hogg medal as best a field.
