THE Mandurah Magic men have started its season with an nail biting overtime win against the Geraldton Buccaneers 104-102.
Playing at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex in Rockingham, the Magic’s home court for the 2016 due to the Mandurah Recreation Centre redevelopment, the Magic started strongly opening up a 14-point lead at quarter-time.
The lead grew to 21 points by half-time with the Magic in full control before Geraldton came alive in the third term to close the deficit to just three points heading into the last.
Geraldton hit the lead quickly in the final term and held it for most of the term before the Magic regained it with just over two minutes left on the clock.
Magic import Trevor Setty made two free throws with 27 seconds left to give the Magic a two point lead before the Buccaneers tied it up with 15 seconds left to take it to five-minute overtime.
Geralton struck first in overtime with a three before the Magic worked its way back in front to lead by five points with 47 seconds on the clock.
A quick two and a three for Gerlaton tied the game up with eight seconds left.
Enter Thomas Remmerswaal, returning to the Magic after a brief stint with Rockingham, who hit a jump shot with four seconds on the clock to win the game for the Magic.
Taylor Mullenax top scored for the Magic with 30 points while Ben Smith chipped in with18 and Setty with 16.
Remmerswaal finished with 15 off the bench.
The Magic men and women take on the Hawks this weekend at the Bendat Basketball Stadium with the women tipping off at 6.30pm and the men at 8.30pm.
