THE Mandurah Mustangs Football Club and the Mandurah Centrals Junior Football Club have joined forces with players now able to move from junior to senior football at the one club.
The club officially launched the Mustang Junior Football Club and a new jumper design on Saturday with junior skill sessions, running and kicking games and a senior’s pre-season fixture between Mandurah, South Mandurah and Waroona.
Unlike the other seven clubs in the Peel Football League the Mandurah Mustangs were just a senior football club with no junior affiliation.
It was the same case for the Mandurah Centrals who were one of only a couple of clubs in the junior football league with no senior pathway.
With the merger it will allow a direct pathway for juniors through to seniors with the move likely to strengthen the Mustangs in the seniors where they have somewhat struggled in recent years.
Mandurah Mustangs president Brant Sachse said the partnership made sense.
“The Centrals are located right next to us [the Centrals train on Rushton Park North with the Mustangs training on Bendigo Bank Stadium] so it’s a good fit,” he said.
“It will help with the players’ development.
“The year 11 and 12 team will train with the seniors every Friday for an hour.”
Sachse said the club’s new jumper design incorporated the Mandurah Centrals logo and would be a predominantly red design for juniors which will be mirrored for seniors with predominantly white.
He said the jumpers were made possible by new club sponsor Bedshed.
During the launch day the club also raised money for the Waroona and Districts Bushfire Appeal from a variety of raffles, an auction and canteen and bar takings.
