After only occupying 225 square metres for over 15 years, the Falcon Men's Shed is now set for an expansion.
At a City of Mandurah council meeting, councillors passed a motion to remodel the Men's Shed and convert two storage areas into a kitchenette and toilet.
The council also supported a 20 year lease and an annual rent of $1 with the group being fully responsible for insurance, utilities, repairs and maintenance of any infrastructure constructed on the site including the existing shed and all structural repairs.
Falcon Men's Shed president John Ellery spoke in support of the renovations in a deputation to council on October 27.
"This is a milestone recommendation and I hope a milestone passed motion," he said.
"This will progress us to a point from where we can start working - we can start working on fundraising and making definite plans and working towards a completion of this project."
The estimated cost to undertake the upgrade has been estimated at $96,000.

Mandurah Cr Jenny Green, who moved the motion, said renovations had been a long time coming.
"This has been a long time coming and we've heard deputations from the committee and president of the Falcon Men's Shed so to get to this stage is really exciting," she said.
"This facilitates an opportunity for those in the community who are retired, redundant or part time employees to meet with the purpose of sharing common skills and sharing friendships, which is a vital component of our Mandurah community.
"The Men's Shed addresses mental health issues as well."
It is not yet known when renovations will commence with the date subject to the Minister for Lands approval.
