In 2018, the NAIDOC theme is ‘Because of her, we can’ and is a chance to acknowledge that women have played, and continue to play, active and significant roles in our families and communities.
As leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women fought and continue to fight, for justice, equal rights, rights to country, law and justice, access to education, employment, and to maintain and celebrate culture, language, music and art.
Locally, the Bindjareb NAIDOC committee invites the whole community to this year’s NAIDOC community celebrations on July 9. The event will include:
- Community walk down the Eastern Foreshore at 4pm
- Flag raising ceremony at Mandjar Square from 4.30pm
- Bindjareb Art Award at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre from 5-8pm.
Attendees can also enjoy entertainment with Della Rae Morrison, family activities, a shared community meal, cultural dancing, keynote speaker Professor Pat Dudgeon and a Youth Hub including a footy clinic, basketball clinic and activities.
The Bindjareb NAIDOC committee also invites the community to the 2018 Bindjareb NAIDOC Ball, one of the most anticipated nights on the NAIDOC calendar.
Tickets are $60 per person which includes a three-course meal and an exciting line up of entertainment and dancing.
The NAIDOC Ball is from 6pm to midnight at Bendigo Bank Stadium on July 14.
