Seventeen schools from the Peel region competed in an annual mathematics competition recently, as part of the push to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects in schools.
The annual Have Sum Fun competition, run by the Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA) was held at Rockingham Senior High School and Singleton Primary School.
The competition was held on two separate days and included year five to year eight students.

With only a few points between each team, Fredrick Irwin Anglican School managed to take out first place in the year seven to eight competition, followed by Mandurah Catholic College and then Tranby College, in third place.
The results were very close the following day for the younger students.
In the final round, Fredrick Irwin Anglican School took out first place again, Singleton Primary School came second and third and Waikiki Primary School came in fourth.
A Mathematical Association of Western Australia spokesperson congratulated the students who took part and gave a special mention to their teachers and parents who showed up in support.
