The Mandurah Magic women made it two straight wins to start the 2018 State Basketball League season when they picked up a road victory over the South West Slammers in Eaton on Saturday night.
A double-double from Carly Boag and impressive scoring nights for Anita Brown, Casey Mihovilovich and Emma Klasztorny led the way for the Magic as they cruised past the Slammers 73-92.
Both sides got off to a fast start at the Eaton Recreation Centre, blazing out to 26 points apiece in the opening period.
But what appeared poised to be a strong contest quickly turned into a controlled outing for the Mandurah side, who outscored the Slammers by 18 points across the next two quarters to sit comfortably in the driver’s seat.
The Magic’s bench players saw plenty of court time down the stretch as they rode out the victory in style.
Prolific centre Boag starred in most facets of the game, ending the night with a stuffed stat sheet consisting of 13 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Emma Klasztorny continued to show she is one of the competition’s premier rotation players, compiling 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Her strong performance follows on from a 10-rebound game to open the season against Perry Lakes the weekend prior.
Important guard Anita Brown once again led the team’s scoring with a 22-point effort, while star veteran Casey Mihovilovich found her groove with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists.
The victory keeps Manudrah unbeaten after two games, and has them placed second in the ladder atop the teams to have played a pair of games.
Only Cockburn, who has played just one match, sits above the Magic.
Mandurah will look to keep their hot form rolling when they take on bitter rivals Rockingham in their first home game of the season this Thursday night.
The match, which will be played as an Easter special, will tip off at 6.30pm at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
