A 16-year-old Pinjarra High School student, who has been playing music for less than a year, will be performing at Fairbridge Festival after winning the Quest Youth Songwriting Competition.
Brooke Bugeja entered her first song she had ever written in to the competition, after encouragement from her music teacher.
“I decided one day to write a song called Societies Fault about all the issues that nobody talks about,” she said. “It’s about encouraging people to be independent and make decisions for themselves.”
All together, there were about 50 teenagers from all over Western Australia who entered the competition.
Brooke said she was excited to be doing a live performance at the festival, on the big stage for 20 minutes.
She said her family would be attending the festival to cheer her on.
Along with the performance, Brooke won a John Butler Studio recording session voucher, a professional photoshoot and a mentoring session.
The festival runs from April 20 to 22 and tickets can be purchased at Moshtix.
