Deciding what to wear on race day can be a tough task for ladies hoping to impress at fashions on the field but creators of online millinery business Headonista believe they’ve figured out how to help.
Business partners Rosie Hegarty and Victoria Gardiner said their future business aspirations looked promising thanks to help from one City of Mandurah’s free entrepreneur programs.
The stylist duo completed the StartUp Smart Creative course in 2017 and in October decided to launch their own business.
The pair have created a unique collection of affordable hats, headbands, hair accessories and fascinators.

Ms Gardiner said the collection could be used for various occasions particularly race days and special events such as ladies days or morning teas.

The entrepreneur programs have been running since 2014 and according to Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams have experienced huge popularity, with many success stories of local people creating their own business opportunities.
Mr Williams said most people had an idea fostering in the back of their minds and the programs were just another mechanism to bring those concepts to life.
Ms Gardiner agreed and said the opportunity to collaborate and network with like-minded people was a valuable element of the program.
With each program tailored to different groups and interests, the City has welcomed more than 530 participants through a range of workshops and courses, including Artpreneur101, Design Your Own Job, the Migrant Women Program, Mumpreneur and the latest StartUp Smart Creative.
The program’s success has contributed to close to 50 full-time businesses being established, and 65 percent of all participants registering an ABN with most of them trading part time.
The eight-week StartUp Smart Creative course was co-funded by State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, and developed and organised by City and partners.
The next StartUp Smart Creative course starts on May 8.
