The old SES building on Park Road could become a buzzing hub for young unemployed people in Mandurah wishing to gain new entrepreneurial skills, if City of Mandurah councillors grant approval to the proposal at the council meeting on Tuesday night.
The new program, Entrepreneurial Program Development for Unemployed Youth, would seek to engage local unemployed youth, and provide them with training and real life skills in a bid to tackle the region’s youth unemployment.
In the 16-week program participants would learn how to understand consumers, identify market opportunities, create an attractive marketing system and develop an effective sales model and online strategy through hands-on workshops on creative glass recycling and adding social value to everyday products.
And it would give the unused SES building on Park Road a new lease on life by becoming the program’s headquarters.
At the end of the program, participants would have the opportunity to exhibit their artworks and products to raise awareness and promote alternative employment opportunities by creating income through small projects.
It is expected the program would engage between 80 and 100 people aged 17 to 28 in its first two years, and would create 10 full-time job opportunities.
The City of Mandurah is currently searching additional funding through the Peel Development Commission (PDC) for the project.
