To celebrate national Senior’s Week Mandurah Silver Chain clients and Riverside Primary education support students had a picnic together at Caterpillar Park on Wednesday.
Working together Silver Chain clients and students from the school took part in games and interactive activities to help challenge their mental and physical skills.
Silver Chain social centre co-ordinator Mandy Holmshaw said fortnightly catch ups with the students from Riverside Primary had “brightened the lives” of many of Silver Chain’s clients.

“As people get older, they face many barriers that can stop them living at home,” Ms Holmshaw said.
“One of these barriers is loneliness.
“Loneliness can affect people in many ways.
“For some it might be living alone at home and not having any social connections. For others, it may be no longer feeling connected to their local community.
“Connecting with schools is an incredible way for seniors and students to share their stories and learn new skills off each other.
“Our Social Centre’s are more than places for clients to meet and socialise with each other. They are an avenue we use to get people out and active in their community, and they love it – it gives them something to look forward to.
“We run a lot of intergenerational programs, where our clients have the opportunity to interact with people of different ages from their community.
“The confidence our clients gain from these programs are priceless and it carries over into their personal lives, providing a positive spark and fulfilment to their lives.
“At Silver Chain, we pride ourselves on providing person centred care, to help more people to stay at home and live their lives as they choose for as long as possible.”
