Mandurah Mail’s very own Marta Pascual Juanola has been named Sports Photographer of the Year (Community) at the prestigious PANPA Newspaper of the Year Awards.
Pascual Juanola was presented with the accolade for her portrait of MMA fighter Ray Karaitiana, at a ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday night.
She was also nominated for her portrait of Aunty Judith – an Aboriginal activist – in the Features and Lifestyle category.
This is not the first time Pascual Juanola has been recognised for her photography talents with her image from the fatal shark attack in Falcon receiving a highly commended at last year’s PANPA awards.
The photo then went on to win Best News Photograph at the 2016 WA Media Awards.
Pascual Juanola has been with the Mail for close to two years, and in that time has met – and photographed – prime ministers, charity workers, sports stars and many in the community.
