A suspected car thief was found hiding in a ceiling before escaping and throwing glass at officers from another rooftop, police say.
Negotiators were called in and the man eventually climbed down and was taken into custody hours later.
A man and woman were seen leaving a suspected stolen car that became bogged in the front yard of a Townsville property in north Queensland about 12.30pm on Sunday.
A 20-year-old woman was arrested nearby when police arrived.
About two hours later, officers were called to a Stuart Drive facility after reports of noises in the ceiling.
"Police attended and climbed up into the ceiling, where they located the man," police said.
The man is accused of then breaking through the ceiling and escaping on foot.
With police in pursuit, he allegedly climbed onto the roof of a nearby two-storey building and began throwing broken glass at officers.
Police said negotiators were called in, with the man climbing down and being taken into custody about 8.30pm.
"No one was seriously injured as a result of the incident," police said.
The 24-year-old man has been charged with four counts of serious assault police officer, three counts of enter dwelling and commit and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He has been denied police bail and is set to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.
The 20-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is also due to appear in court on Monday.
