Dawesville MP Lisa Munday hosted over 120 local residents from Dawesville, Halls Head, Dudley Park, Erskine, Wannanup and Falcon to an afternoon tea to celebrate WA Seniors' Week.

Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch attended as special guest to update attendees on the successful $400 Seniors Safety and Security Rebate reintroduced by the state government as well as announcing the consultation to shape the 10-year seniors' strategy which is due to be launched in late 2022.
The state government is developing WA's first seniors' strategy and is keen to hear the thoughts and opinions of older Western Australians. The WA Seniors Strategy 2022-2032 will set out the WA Government's 10-year plan to support older people, and harness the opportunities and address the challenges of WA's ageing population. The consultation is now open and seniors' can have their say online at https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/department-of-communities/wa-seniors-strategy
As a special treat, entertainment was provided by the Mandurah Peel Uke group and the crowd sang along to some classic tunes. This group is a local success story that came about through a vision by local ministers to find a way to get seniors engaged again after the initial COVID lockdowns and has grown in leaps and bounds.
Lisa Kelly was in attendance as 'Wally' to let residents know about the Wayfairer group that encourages engagement and provides support to the local seniors' community and there were some other familiar faces such as Mandurah Councillor Jenny Green, former Peel Development Commission chair Paddi Creevey. Local award winning bakery, Shakerz Bakerz provided the scones for the Devonshire tea and Party Plus Mandurah provided the crockery.
"It was fantastic to see so many local seniors in attendance at my afternoon tea, not only to hear from Minister Punch, but also to ask questions and raise issues with the Minister and myself, and to socialise with their peers," Dawesville MP Lisa Munday said.
"The Dawesville electorate has a much larger proportion of the population that are over 65 than the state average - almost double - so I would encourage as many local seniors as possible to share their views in the consultation about what makes their lives more enjoyable, encourages a sense of belonging and what challenges they face in participating in our community and feeling valued."
