Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club (MOFSC) has committed to once again supporting youth sailing within the community by running its Tackers Programs throughout the next sailing season.
The Tackers programs run for four days at a time in various sessions throughout the school holidays, and have been designed to give kids an opportunity to try sailing and develop their skills before registering for the season.
MOFSC member Cassie Heatley said learning to sail was a hobby for children that held a wealth of potential.
"Learning to sail is a great way for kids to get outside, enjoy the sunshine, stay fit and learn valuable water safety skills," Ms Heatley said.
"Sailing is also a most enjoyable sport for parents - who wouldn't want to sit out in the sunshine enjoying the club's licenced restaurant facilities whilst watching their kids out on the water?"
Ms Heatley said the Tackers program also offers a new way to spend time throughout the school holidays - all the while "learning new skills" and "getting outside with the family".
"Some basic swim and water safety skills are beneficial, but all children are closely monitored by on water support and well equipped with buoyancy aids and safety gear."
Once the children have the participated in the program, they have the option to enrol as a junior in the summer season.
Opening day for the summer season is Saturday, October 9, and a race will be held in the afternoon.
Junior training programs run on Saturday mornings throughout the summer seasons and the Club will provide all initial equipment including boats, buoyancy aids, instructors and support crews.
"Sessions are skill-based without the pressure of competition until the child is ready to join club racing," Ms Heatley said.
