Nominations have closed for the City of Mandurah elections, with 17 candidates in the running for a position on the council.
After a big influx of nominations on Thursday, there are now five people vying for a position on both the East and Town Wards, both of which have two vacancies.
There are three candidates for the North Ward, which has one vacancy.
Aside from Rhys William's mayoral position, the positions of councillors Peter Jackson, David Schumacher, Lynn Rodgers, Merv Darcy and Matt Rogers are up for re-election.
Cr Darren Lee's spot on council is also vacant after he resigned earlier this year.
Electors will have the opportunity to make their vote count by either:
- Posting using the reply paid envelope provided;
- Delivered in person to the City of Mandurah, Administration Office at 3 Peel Street, Mandurah, by COB Friday 15 October 2021;
- Delivered in person on Election Day to the Mandurah Seniors and Community Centre at 41 Ormsby Terrace, Mandurah until 6pm Saturday 16 October 2021.

MEET YOUR CANDIDATES
MAYOR
Mayoral candidate: RHYS WILLIAMS
Current mayor of four years, focus on fixing problem areas including economic stagnation, unemployment and homelessness, reactivating the CBD, protecting environment.
Mayoral candidate: AHMED ZILANI
North Ward councillor will focus on issues such as coastal erosion, sand bypassing, MPAC funding, policing, freezing rates.
COASTAL WARD
Coastal Ward: BOB POND
Falcon resident for 22 years, Bob has raised a family and contributed 10 years to junior soccer and 21 to the Peel Harvey Catchment Council. He is qualified in environmental management and works in the region; as well as running a bed and breakfast with his partner.
Coastal Ward: MERV DARCY
Mandurah resident for more than 30 years, he has served as a local JP and volunteered for several organisations that support those most in need.
EAST WARD
East Ward: AMBER KEARNS
Mum of three, Amber has spent 27 years in community development roles in federal, state and local community services. She is YouthCare School Chaplain at Greenfields Primary School and volunteers for community service groups and charities, currently on the board for Bridge Builders.
EAST WARD - LYNN RODGERS
East Ward councillor for 20 years. Founder and former chief executive of WestAus Crisis & Welfare Services and founder of the Heathy Breakfast Club operating in 13 schools across Mandurah and Peel.
East Ward - KERRY BEAKE
Focus on healthy and inclusive communities as well as communication and accountability. Diverse community experience in member roles including as a disadvantaged resident.
East Ward - JENNIFER PHELPS
Background in community service, former member of the Scouting Association, member of Rotaryand Leo, St John Ambulance Brigade and Red Cross. Mother of two teenagers. Focus on issues such as domestic violence, child abuse, youth issues, women's rights, men's rights, seniors issues, animal rights and environment.
East Ward - DANIEL WILKINS
Resident for 32 years and father of two. Focus on growing economy, protecting waterways, improving amenities, modernising playgrounds, greater seniors' discounts, more crosswalks and better community safety and crime prevention.
TOWN WARD
Town Ward: STEPHEN CARTER
Runs a local business and a non-profit (Pride in Peel). Focus on making it easier to do business, building an inclusive environment, advocating for all-ability facilities and events celebrating all cultures and beliefs, and supporting the arts and entertainment industry.
Town Ward: DAVID SCHUMACHER
Town Ward councillor for 12 years. Focus on mental health, homelessness and disadvantaged. Has held positions on 33 boards/committees including 17 for non-profits. In 2016 nominated Australian of the Year and in 2018 received the WA Community Service Award.
Town Ward: SHANNON WRIGHT
Father of four, principal of Greenfields Primary School and member of the Mandurah Surf Lifesaving Club. Focus on community safety, redeveloping western foreshore, improving traffic management, sustainable rates.
Town Ward: RYAN BURNS
Focus on supporting local business, protecting environment and targeting wasteful spending. Resident of 40 years, worked locally as an engineer for nine years.
Town Ward: SAM JORDAN
Travelled 109 countries for work, 25 years of working experience, local and global companies. Focus on cost cuts, budget auditing, funding. Last research project was creating a solution using high technology to solve humanitarian problems.
NORTH WARD
North Ward: PETER JACKSON
North Ward councillor of 8 years. Chairman of city's Audit and Risk committee and Committee of Council. A father of five, local broadcaster, and high school teacher.
North Ward: BEN FAGAN
Mandurah resident for over 11 years, family background of various entrepreneurs, worked for large national, international and corporate businesses. Personal experience in the transport and safety industry, domestic and personal violence, disability discrimination, homelessness and mental health space. Focus on safe city.
North Ward: JACOB CUMBERWORTH
Mandurah resident of 27 years, father of young family, entrepreneur, company director and property investor. Focus on inspiring youths, creating local career opportunities that support family values, balancing nature and urban development.
