Serpentine Jarrahdale landholders are being encouraged to enhance their front verges through the Shire's 2021 Free Verge Plant Program.

Each year both urban and rural residents can apply for free verge plants to assist in beautification, with the 2021 program set to launch on Thursday, 27 May.
Shire president Michelle Rich said verge plants held significant benefits for the local environment.
"Verge plants play an important role in our community, increasing biodiversity and providing a space for our native birdlife," Cr Rich said.
"They also offer economic value, helping to reduce energy costs.
"The Shire has run this program for over 15 years now and it's exciting to see the results throughout our local streets."
Landcare SJ executive officer Francis Smit encouraged residents to get in early with their application.
"Each year the Free Verge Plant Program is extremely popular and is often over-subscribed," he said.
"It is fantastic that so many residents are keen to green their street verge and make a positive contribution to our environment."

Applications for seedling vouchers must be submitted via the Landcare SJ website, and can be redeemed at Australian Native Nurseries on 141 King Road, Oakford.
Additional native seedlings are available for purchase for residents to use in their front gardens in addition to their free verge plants.
The Free Verge Plant Program will distribute over 3000 plants this year.

The program is made possible by a $6000 contribution from the Shire and is co-funded by Water Corporation's Waterwise Greening Scheme.
