Mandurah resident launches 'Uber for washing clothes' app, Bubbles

Seeing his own wife work as a hairdresser during school hours sparked an idea for an app in Mandurah resident Brayden Sutton.

"My son was going to school and my wife is a hairdresser so I was thinking how can a lot of people have a job during those times between drop off and pick up. It's not feasible for many people," Mr Sutton said.

"At a similar time, I had a friend who was about to get married and he was still dropping his dirty washing off to his mum. That is when the app idea firmed up in my mind."

The app idea, now known as Bubbles, is akin to "Uber for washing clothes".

The app connects customers with local washers to complete washing, drying, and the folding of clothes.

The model allows a washer to pick up your clothes and drop them back clean to your home in a time that suits you.

Giving the Mail a sneak peak into the app, Mr Sutton said he hoped this closed a gap in the market.

"There is nothing really like this on the market. We've even seen globally there are apps that are a dry cleaning based system as opposed to ours where someone picks and drops off the washing," he said.

Since having the idea, Mr Sutton has joined hands with his friend, Ganesh Chaudhari, who has a background in business and IT.

"What excited me about the idea was the huge potential for a lot of people in our communities who are looking for help around the chore of washing clothes, and for people looking for a second income," Mr Chaudhari said.

"Pensioners or university students can make that extra money for bills or stay at home parents who need something to do between school drop-offs and pick-ups.

"People can become their own boss in a way, by picking and choosing their own hours and accepting jobs they want to do."

"When I came up with the idea I said to Ganesh this might work," Mr Sutton said.

"I deliberately brought on one of the smartest people I know to work with me on this app.

"Since then we've branched out with app builders and managers."

Mr Sutton said Bubbles, which launched on Friday, has taken a long time to come to fruition.

"When I first had the idea over 12 months ago, I thought making an app would be easy, but it gets a bit spooky especially the finance side of it," he said.

"I've changed a lot of my mindset. I was a pretty stubborn person before doing this but now I understand if you're stuck in your ways it'll go to water."

"A lot of people have good ideas, but we have taken that next step to actually execute on that idea," Mr Chaudhari added.
