Students from three Mandurah high schools got to hone their public speaking skills when they spoke on a varied array of topics at Rotary's 4 Way Speech Test contest on May 25.
Seven Year 10 students competed at Mandurah Foundation Christian College, with the winner and runner-up progressing to the semi-finals which will be held on August 4 against the winners from Armadale and Kwinana schools.
TJ Tuwodo from Foundation Christian College won with a speech on music, while runner-up Hannah Kennedy, also from Foundation, spoke on the topic 'One Person Can Make a Difference'.
Other topics included 'How the Left is Impeding Our Right to Free Speech' and 'Real Wealth is Never a Measure of Money or Possessions'.
The competition provides Year 10 students with an opportunity to improve their public speaking and helps to develop their confidence and self-esteem.
Originating in the United States, the competition and was introduced to Australia by past District Governor Fred Marsh during his term in 1988/1989.
Since then, other Districts across Australia have established their own competition.
