After Tropical Cyclone Seroja devastated communities in WA's Mid-West, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) sent out a request for volunteers to be deployed to assist with the clean up.
Many State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers from around the state answered the call including members from Murray SES.
The Murray SES volunteers were Troy Telfer, Ric Bank, Kirin Fulton, Bree Monck and from Collie SES, Colin Nicholson.
The team drove their storm/rescue truck from Pinjarra to Geraldton on the Monday and were the first strike team into Morowa, Perenjori and surrounding regions.
Reports back to Murray SES indicated the team carried out some outstanding work over the five days they were there.
The locals in Morowa were so appreciative of their contributions to the region that they held a 'thank you and community barbecue' for the strike force the evening before they left the area to return home.
Team leader Troy Telfer said, "This is an amazing show of strength, resilience and also country hospitality from the residents in the region. Feeling very humbled especially when a lot have lost everything".
Mr Telfer also stated that working side by side with 'firies' and 'bushies' has been a great experience.
Some of the tasks carried out by the volunteers were tree removal from buildings, tarping, identifying asbestos, shoring structural supports and community liaison.
The volunteers returned to Pinjarra on Sunday.
Before going home, they replenished supplies in the truck ready for its next outing.
They all went home exhausted and looking forward to sleeping in their own beds.
But it didn't end there.
The next day (Monday) more volunteers, three from Murray SES and two from Australind SES, were deployed to the Mid-West for a week.
Some of the Murray volunteers will be going back for more next week to assist those in the Mid-West.
