The Mandurah Bowling and Recreation Club has completed an eight-week lawn bowls program called 'Bowls for All', in conjunction with Mandurah City Council and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Program coordinator Kerry Adams said the response the club received to the program exceeded expectations.
"What was expected to be a healthy response to the program has turned into a stampede of keen seniors wanted to learn more about the game," she said.
"So-much-so that over 80 seniors registered and participated in the first introduction and training session."
Ms Adams also told the Mail that feedback from the program's participants was overwhelmingly positive.
"The enthusiasm shown during the morning session demonstrated that our healthy seniors may have discovered a much needed sporting outlet where they can enjoy a sport in a socially fun environment, with opportunities of making lots of new friends," she said.
"We filled three greens with potential bowlers and more importantly, potential members of our wonderful club."
