Falcon Community Playgroup members say they feel excluded from the process of the City of Mandurah moving them from their current premises at the Falcon Family Centre after eight years.
At the February 23 Ordinary Council meeting, councillors voted to grant a 20-year lease over the entire Linville Street property to the Falcon Mens' Shed.
"We feel like we've been kicked to the curb," playgroup volunteer Brenda Miller said.
Playgroup member Yasmin Atkinson said although they were made aware in December there was the possibility of moving, they weren't consulted or made aware that the move was definitely going ahead until an email on January 29.
The email advised a space had been booked for them at the Falcon eLibrary on Friday mornings "in anticipation of the move".
In December the group were advised that no decisions would be made about their future at Linville Street until at least March 2021, however, at the October 2020 council meeting funds of $96,000 were allocated to upgrade the facility to better suit the needs of the Mens' Shed expansion.
Playgroup members say they also feel the new location is unsuitable.
"The current premises provides an important, easy flow between the indoor and outdoor areas to allow our families to use both areas with their children," Ms Atkinson said.
Ms Miller added, " [The City] is planning to put us in a meeting room which means children will have to go through the library to get to the playground. I feel bad for other library users".
The Falcon Mens' Shed plans to expand its membership and activities, and look to include pottery, model ship building, metal work and a community garden.
The council voted to make an amendment to the officer's recommendation that the City works with the playgroup to ensure its needs are met in the new facility.
