As the last of the spectacular Mandurah Christmas lights are turned off, we turn to a new year - a year that holds much promise for our beautiful city.
Our COVID-friendly events program over the summer season has kicked off with street performances and live music happening around the City and a huge Australia Day series of events announced.
If you haven't already, make sure you take the opportunity to get out and enjoy the awesome community atmosphere around Mandurah at the moment.
It is fantastic to see so many people coming together to enjoy what Mandurah has to offer.
But also, behind the scenes over the last year, we have continued to work with our partners across the community and all levels of government to progress some really key initiatives that will hugely benefit Mandurah into 2021 and the future.
We have successfully secured the State's second Common Ground facility, which will provide permanent housing and wrap-around support services to our local people who are sleeping rough.
We are also soon launching our new Assertive Outreach Program, which will ensure the more vulnerable people in our community can directly access the services and support they need when they need them.
Our future is certainly looking bright.
- Mayor Rhys Williams
And of course, our Waterfront Redevelopment is well and truly underway, with the new skate park an absolute hit over these school holidays, the circular pool and Smart Street Mall under construction and the second stage of the western foreshore set to start in the new year.
We are continuing our discussions with Government around the Transform Mandurah economic revitalisation plan.
Leveraging on our unique waterways and natural environment, Transform Mandurah - including the creation of a water sciences hub, the City Centre redevelopment and the development of world-class eco-tourism in the Yalgorup National Park - will deliver short and long-term investment, quality sustainable jobs and education opportunities.
And momentum is already building. Discussions so far with the State Government have been very supportive and from all accounts, our community is right there behind us in advocating for a more resilient and ambitious future for Mandurah.
Great things are happening for Mandurah, which truly is a testament to our strong and dedicated community and those leaders that continue to work with us to advocate for the betterment of this place.
Our future is certainly looking bright.
