Just one breach of COVID-19 rules has been reported during muted New Year's Eve celebrations across South Australia.
A party host at suburban Christies Beach has been fined for breaching the state's 50-person limit on gatherings imposed as part of coronavirus restrictions.
However, police still made 78 arrests across the state for a range of behavioural offences and issued a further 139 fines.
Acting Assistant Commissioner John Venditto said police were pleased with how the majority of South Australians responded to calls for people to abide by COVID-19 restrictions.
"Most people were eager to enjoy the night and to do the right thing, with only a small minority making poor choices that required police attention," he said.
"We knew that the absence of any formal celebrations would mean that New Year's Eve would look different to previous years.
"But we still planned on large groups of people being keen to celebrate, unwind and close the chapter of what has been a very difficult year."
Adelaide's traditional fireworks display was cancelled this year with the city's CBD monitored closely to keep crowds down.
However, a significant number of people still gathered in the city while beachside locations at Glenelg and Semaphore were equally popular.
Almost 21,000 also attended the Big Bash cricket match at Adelaide Oval.
