This morning I took my rubbish bin out, turned and picked up the local paper and fell onto the pavement and path. I am 85, full of arthritis and with no strength in my arms. I do have a "fall monitor" that is not worn at night, so as I was only just out of bed, in just nightdress and dressing gown and not yet wearing it. I was stuck. Seven or eight cars drove past me and an almost empty bus, but there was no sudden application of brakes to perhaps help an old lady, until a red vehicle suddenly did brake, was able to do a U-turn and came to help me. I would like to say a very sincere "thank you" to Matt for caring enough to stop and help me. There are some fabulous people in Mandurah.

Men's Shed members
We are a new men's shed in Mandurah operating from a rented industrial unit at 4/114 Park Road, registered as the Peel Community Men's Shed and we have 18 members at the moment, without any advertising. The unit is 150sqm with an added lean-to used for storage, and we have a good range of loaned and gifted machines and tools. We are now able to invite new members to join us. We are working with the City of Mandurah to get a site for a building large enough to accommodate the different interests of our members. Anyone interested in joining can ring Gary Brown on 0418 853 504 or email rgar4555@bigpond.net.au or call into our shed.

New Mandurah economy
The council's proposal to attract an engineering firm, to relocate from Perth to Mandurah is exactly what we need. This will create jobs and build a strong local economy. However the current mixed use urban development strategy is very prescriptive and limits the creativity of developers. To attract top tier companies Mandurah requires stunning architectural, multi-storey office spaces with water and nature views.
The council and state government should be offering incentives to attract suitable developers and companies. The trickle down effects would be immensely beneficial. Not only will we have high income earners spending locally, these companies will provide opportunity and inspiration for our youths. The council's actions are commendable and will kick start Mandurah's transformation from sleepy holiday village into a modern, economically stable and liveable city.
