Hard work and dedication paid off for Lennie Brockenshire as he took home the Boxing WA state novice 64 kilogram title in his debut bout on Saturday night.
The Fighter Fit prospect has faced a tumultuous time trying to lock in his first fight, with several opponents pulling out just days before bouts were scheduled to go ahead.
But he stuck to the plan, stayed in shape and was ready when he got the call to fight in the state novice final just one night prior to the match.
Despite the nerves that come on debut, Brockenshire's performance was clinical on his way to being crowned champion.
Coach Danny Heyes described his pupil's efforts as "outstanding" in the face of adversity.
"I was just so impressed with him," Heyes said.
"To only have one night to prepare mentally for your first fight, that's a huge ask, and it didn't matter to him at all because he had been ready for weeks.
"Before this it had been a really rough run, so to see him come out on top was definitely a really big moment for everyone involved."
Joining Brockenshire in the wins column on the night was fellow Fighter Fit boxer Tyler Naidoo, who took out a victory in the elite 69kg state titles semi final.
Naidoo controlled the fight from the outset to win convincingly, cementing his spot in this coming weekend's final and keeping him undefeated through 2020 as he continues to climb the ranks.
"Tyler just keeps working in the gym and the results keep coming," coach Heyes said.
"He executed the plan really well on Saturday, and now we're looking forward to his final."
