A chance encounter between neighbours has inspired a Dawesville quiltmaker to donate three one-of-a-kind handmade quilts to women who have recently moved into their own homes after living on the streets.
Bev, who didn't want her surname mentioned, was inspired to donate her handiwork to St Bart's residents after talking to her next-door neighbours Mel Ashton, who is the Chair of St Bart's, and his wife Julia.
St Bart's Women's Service, based in East Perth, is a transitional accommodation facility for single women who have experienced, or are at risk of homelessness.
The handcrafted quilts were gifted to Priscilla and Olly Harris, who had been staying in the St Bart's Women Service for several months after experiencing homelessness for several years.
Bev has been quilting for 20 years and gifts them to anyone she knows of who needs cheering up.
"I had a few spare quilts at home and really wanted to do something to help the women at St Bart's feel comfortable as they move onto living independently," Bev said.
One of the quilt recipients, Priscilla recently moved into her own home after spending time in the Women's Service to recuperate and gain the strength she needed after rehab and was delighted to receive this special gift.
"I just love the quilt, it matches perfectly in my new home," Priscilla said.
