The Peel Health Campus is launching a new community grants program to support local organisations as they attempt to get back on their feet following the impact of COVID-19.
Called "Community Kick-Start" the grants scheme will provide one-off payments of up to $1000 for community groups, clubs, events and organisations that need a helping hand to get back up and operating.
Peel Health Campus chief executive officer Andrew Tome said the new scheme had been inspired by the community support provided to the hospital during the emerging stages of COVID-19 pandemic.
The support included patients showing kindness to sometimes overwhelmed staff at the hospital.
Mr Tome said it was nothing new to see that showing of support.
"Our staff were blown away by the words of kindness and support they received from the community while we were dealing with the early uncertain stages of COVID-19," he said.
"Peel-Murray people have a track record of community-mindedness.
"Our paediatric ward was entirely paid for by donations largely from the Peel-Murray community, and our hospital is supported by dedicated volunteers who make it a welcoming place.
"Clubs, organisations and events help build community connection and support people's mental health and well-being.
"This Community Kick-Start scheme is just one way we can give back and recognise that."
Mr Tome said grants could go towards repairs, or to support organisations to make adjustments to accommodate COVID-19 distancing measures.
They may also help local groups pay for equipment, or support the broader Peel-Murray community.
Applications for the Community Kick-Start grants scheme open during the month of October, and recipients will be announced sometime over the following month.
