A new three-bay cricket net training facility and upgrades to a golf club and recreation centre are three major projects in the pipeline for Waroona.
The Shire of Waroona has set its sights on redeveloping the Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre (WRAC) upper ablutions and pool concourse, installing a new three-bay cricket net training facility on the lower cricket oval and the reticulating three fairways at the Preston Beach Golf Club.
At the ordinary council meeting on August 25, council endorsed three submissions to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries for the Small Grants round of the Community Sport and Recreation Facility Fund (CSRFF) for each of the projects.
- WRAC redevelopment - $210,000
- Cricket nets - $63,000
- Preston Beach Golf Club reticulation - $87,000
A council spokesperson said the council's support for each project showed the importance sport and recreation had within the Shire.
"The redevelopment of the WRAC aquatic concourse will result in a more family orientated and modern space and is likely to attract additional users," the spokesperson said.
The new cricket nets will provide the Waroona Cricket Club with a facility which will cater for the growing number of members as well as becoming a community asset to be used by the public.
The Preston Beach Golf Club is in one of the Shires tourist areas and provides locals and visitors with spectacular views, often accompanied by the resident kangaroos. The irrigation will transform the fairways from sand to grass, providing an attractive and unique experience.
The CSRFF successful grants are expected to be announced late October.
