Errol Baker says the unique hand-carved walking stick was taken from his car while it was parked outside his Mississippi Drive home.
He has been on a mission to see its return, including canvasing his neighbourhood for people with CCTV and putting up posters - but three weeks later, he is still empty handed.
"The stick was carved many years ago and it tells a story of both our family and Tane Mahuta the god of the forest and all that lives within and how we are tied together," Mr Baker said.
"It is very precious to us and was stolen out of our car which unfortunately was unlocked at the time.
"I have had a huge number of people comment on it when I have been out and about and as you can see it is very distinctive."
Anyone with information is urged to call the police.or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
