A significant health scare prompted Michael and Tanya Wheeler to bring their wedding plans forward.
The duo met eight years ago through their son's being best friends.
They soon became friends and confidants and last year their bond grew stronger and they realised neither of them had ever felt a love so strong before.
On July 13, they eloped after Tanya had a health scare, diagnosed as having spine cancer.
Thankfully it was a misdiagnosis and although Tanya did require emergency spine surgery, with hard work she managed to learn to walk in time for their special day, with the help of Michael.
They married on a private property with their parents and childhood best friends as their witnesses. They had the love and support of their children, family, friends, communities of Mandurah and Wagin.
They may have taken the long way but they got there in the end.
They have another future wedding planned for December this year with all the bells and whistles to once again celebrate their love.
