Young Mandurah surfing gun Zali Corry took out the under 18s state longboard title with a stunning display at her home break of Avalon over the weekend.
Corry proved the best of the junior contingent as the WA Longboard Titles hit the Peel coastline, surfing her way to a score of 17.20 to be crowned champion in the category.
She wasn't the only local to enjoy a win, however, with Frank Gray taking a narrow victory of Dunsborough's Brett Merifield in the over 55 men's.
All in all the two-day event saw 17 state championships awarded.
Anthony Spencer showed why he's currently ranked in the top 40 of the World Surf League Longboard Tour, moving his board through the line up with speed and precision, claiming victory in the blue-ribbon open men's final ahead of Ryan Clarke, Jack Medland and Meadow Springs local Ryan Egan.
Spencer used his flashy forehand to post the two of the best scores of the final, finishing on a combined total of 13.97 (from a possible 20).
"To score waves like this for an event is like a dream come true, it's been dead set pumping out there," he said.
"I'm stoked to get a win this weekend and all the boys were ripping and they really tested me."
But it was Medland taking the title, with his third-place finish enough to see him over the line.
The Dunsborough star also took out the open men's logger division title, claiming second place behind Scott Trew at the Mandurah event but first overall in the championships.
Despite missing out in the open logger title, Scott Trew was turning heads all event with his amazing repertoire of forehand turns and went onto claim wins in both the over 40 men's and over 40 men's logger divisions, capturing two state titles.
In a repeat of her performances from the opening round in Yallingup earlier this year, Crystal Wallace dominated the open women's division and claimed the 2020 state championship in the process.
"I began competing when I was 15 and to still enjoy it all these years on is really amazing," Wallace said.
"The waves have been pumping and to share this win with my family here supporting will make it memorable."
Emily Gibbs was the open women's logger champion, Sam Vanderford defended her over 50 women's state title and Judy Dann became WA's maiden over 60 women's longboard state champion.
