Young guns Olivia Bassett-Scarfe, Kasey Miegel and Jaide Britton showed just how bright their futures are with some dazzling performances across a bittersweet double-header for the Mandurah Magic women over the weekend.
The Magic pulled a win and a loss from their opening West Coast Classic matches against the South West and Perth, with the young trio in hot form.
Hitting the road to take on the Slammers in Eaton on Friday night, Bassett-Scarfe led from the front with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Her efforts proved a key to the Magic recording the 56-64 victory.
Miegel and Britton also impressed, particularly during a dominant patch in the third quarter.
Trailing by four at half time Miegel found another gear in the third, banking 10 of her 12 points in the period while Britton heated up for seven in the term.
Securing the win the women looked to make it back-to-back victories to start the West Coast Classic the following night, but their return home was a dour affair with en experienced Perth Redbacks not giving an inch.
Bassett-Scarfe doubled down with 18 points and five rebounds to show her first performance was no fluke, but the game was beyond their reach early as the Redbacks cruised to a 46-79 win.
Britton threw in nine points for good measure, while Miegel pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Magic will front up for yet another double-header next weekend, hitting the road to take on Willetton on Friday night before returning home to host East Perth on Saturday.
The home game against the Eagles tips off at 5pm, Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
