The Peel Lightning took a bittersweet result when they tied with the South West Jets in round three of West Australian Netball League (WANL) action at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre on Friday night.
The Lightning opened the game in promising fashion but a back-and-forth contest allowed the Jets to even up the scores at the end of the first term.
From there the visitors piled up the points in the second, scoring 17 for the period as they headed into half time leading by three.
But Peel came out of the break firing, snatching the lead to take a two-point buffer into the final term.
The two sides never really separated throughout the contest, and that held true down the stretch with scores being tied 52-52 at the final buzzer.
Lightning coach Naomi Pannell said her side was disappointed not to come away with the win, but would take plenty of lessons from the tie.
"We were really gutted not to finish with the win," she said.
"I thought it was really within our grasp and to only score nine goals in the final quarter was a bit of a let down.
"We probably could have made a few changes down the stretch and adapted a little bit better, but I still think we had a lot of positives."
Pannell said the focus would be on better execution moving forward.
"We had something like 22 bad passes that ended in scores for (the Jets)," she said.
"That's just too high. We'll look to sharpen up and create less turnovers next week."
Waiting for the Lightning next week is the second-placed West Coast Warriors.
Led by star shooter Donnelle Wallam, the Warriors will be eager to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season in a 62-60 thriller against East Fremantle on Friday night.
"We will need to be at our best," Pannell said.
"They are a great side and a could chance for us as a new side to really see how we stack up."
The Lightning's clash with the Warriors kicks off at the Gold Netball Centre on Friday night, 6.15pm.
Under 20s
The under 20s suffered a narrow defeat on Sunday, going down to the Jets in a 45-47 epic.
They will attempt to bounce back when they take on the bottom spot Warriors on Friday.
