The WA government has opened up applications for funding as part of the 2020 Community Litter Grants program.
Community groups, schools and local governments are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 for major initiatives or regional projects, or $5000 for local area projects.
The Keep Australia Beautiful Council's (KABC) 2020 Community Litter Grants aim to support projects and initiatives that focus on changing littering behaviour.
The grants are open to local governments, small to medium-sized enterprises, community groups and schools.
Successful projects will help to reduce litter and will target the incorrect disposal of cigarette butts and takeaway food containers.
Projects funded through the 2019 Community Litter Grants included the City of Bunbury's Sea Bin installation (a first in the South West), Collie's cigarette bin project and North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club's filtered water dispenser to reduce littered single use plastic bottles.
Keep Australia Beautiful WA chairperson Michael Aspinall said the grants would be a significant boost for the community.
"The KABC Community Litter Grants provide financial support and guidance for communities and organisations for the implementation of projects which make lasting changes that reduce litter and change littering behaviour," he said.
"I encourage community groups and individuals to take advantage of these grants to help them run these important grassroots initiatives, which bring us closer to our ultimate goal of a litter-free Western Australia."
Applications for Community Litter Grants close on Friday, July 24 with successful applicants announced in KAB Week 2020 which runs from August 17-23, 2020.
