Mandurah filmmaker Mark Regan's short film, The Memory is set to launch onto the international film festival circuit this year.
Filmed in Silver Sands, the psychological thriller questions whether we should trust our memories.
Mark Regan, who wrote and directed the movie, said he wanted The Memory to question the idea of perception.
"My launchpad for the narrative was that we all do remember things differently," he said.
"I think it is fascinating that we all experience life so differently and our memory of events can be vastly diverse from one person to another.
"I hope the film will make audiences take notice of their own memories and how we process them."
The key character in The Memory is Eric, who is brutally woken one night by an intruder who forces him to remember a crime he did in years that have gone by, which causes him to question his own memories.
Living in Mandurah for the past five years, Mr Regan wanted to use the film to find other people in the Peel region that are passionate about filmmaking.
"Since moving here I've been trying to find people in Mandurah who work in film or are interested in that," he said.
"I wanted to make the film in my backyard to support local people so the whole crew I hired is Peel based."

The local short film is now set to launch onto the international film festival circuit, with Mr Regan planning to enter The Memory into several film festivals.
"Over the next 12 months I want to enter as many as possible and just see what comes out of it," he said.
"I'm putting it into Cinefest this week, which is the one that runs out of Busselton.
"That festival happens in August then it's going to go into festivals very specific to it's psychological thriller genre."
After navigating the world's film festival circuit, the film will be available to view online.
