You've got to hand it to Phil Anderson, owner of the Taralga Pub in NSW
You might not quite know where Taralga is, but Phil's pretty much unintentionally spoken up for a fair few regional and rural people.
At the Taralga Pub, which houses no poker machines and offers the only dining in the town, the business is trading at 20-30 per cent of their normal takings and employee numbers have dropped from 20 to four.
"We're trying to keep them employed and break even," Mr Anderson, who hasn't received any money from stimulus and JobKeeper programs as yet, said. "Hopefully they'll revise the plan and let us open the dining room so we can trade as a restaurant.
In the meantime his pub (read business), like so many more non-metropolitan pubs (read business again) is leaching money.
"It feels a bit like rural businesses have been forgotten."
Mr Anderson spoke with the Goulburn Post's Michelle Haines Thomas. You can read the full article here.
Oh yes, Taralga is a small village in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. Drop in for a beer when you can.
