A Pinjarra furniture design company has taken out a top award for a mid-century Scandinavian inspired dining table.
Arqadian Furniture was nominated in the 2019 Australian Contemporary Emerging Design Awards (ACE) for the Castellane dining table designed by Vincent Mayer.
The table was inspired by Scandinavian furniture with a touch of modernity using and mixing solid jarrah, aluminium and lacquer.
The ACE Awards focus on the need to improve communication between industry and the design community and speaks of how incredible Australian talent can be recognised through opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Australasian Furnishing Association ambassador Jamie Durie said the Castellane dining table was part of a stylistic suite of pieces.
"Possessing a sculptural timber leg structure reminiscent of Carlo Mollino's dynamic timber furniture from the 50s, it exhibits quality finishing," Jamie said.
"The solid top incorporates aluminium stiffening elements and features a nicely chamfered edge detail. It appears extremely well made with a price tag to match."
Vincent joins a growing list of great Australian designers and makers who continue to inspire and be inspired by advances in technology, the development of new materials and the increasing focus on sustainability.
AFA chief executive Patrizia Torelli said the industry's future lied in the hands of designers.
"Consumer spending habits are being driven by innovation, new technologies and sustainability and our designers are among the best in the world," she said.
