Up-and-coming netball superstar Ella Sigley is hoping to help Western Australia claim a national title in April, with the young gun named as part of the state's under 19s side for the 2020 National Championships.
The Mandurah Netball Association product will fly out bound for Hobart on Thursday, April 16, and while she's no stranger to representing her state, Sigley said there would always be nerves ahead of a national tournament.
"The nervousness doesn't really kick in until you go away, but it's always in the back of your mind," she said.
"There's lots of selectors for a bunch of different teams there checking out how you play, and just going up against the best players from each state is a little nerve-wracking, but it's also exciting at the same time.
"This is my last year being aged to play nationals so I really just want to make the most it."
The competition will pit Sigley and her Western Australian teammates against every other state in a series of hotly-contested games across a week-long fixture.
It's that competitiveness that the young Mandurah star is once again looking forward to, having recently returned to training following a break over the holiday period.
"It's good to be back in the swing of things," she said.
"We (the state teams) had a camp last weekend that focussed on team building and gave us the chance to grow, so that was really great."
Outside of her state duties, Sigley is also gearing up for her second season with the East Fremantle Sharks in the WA Netball League.
The 18-year-old said she was able to soak up an abundance of knowledge from the squad's senior players in her debut year, and is eager to work her way into a more prominent role in 2020.
"I was able to learn so much from some of the older girls last season and it really helped open my eyes to a few things," she said.
"Hopefully I can help out a bit more this season and take even more in."
Ultimately the young star is eyeing a spot on a Suncorp Super Netball team's roster in the future, or even better, a place with the Australian Diamonds.
