The Youth Reference Group (YRG) are young people aged 16-25 who volunteer their time to support and collaborate with headspace.
They are chosen for their interest and passion for mental health and Mandurah's young community.
Being a member of the YRG comes with a number of opportunities, including training, developing group and leadership skills, attending a range of events and the chance to make a difference in the lives of young people.
Earlier this year a group of our YRG members participated in a film-making competition.
"The YRG decided to challenge ourselves and enter into Mandurah's new Take1 Youth Film Festival as a new project to spread awareness and our passion for mental health," YRG member Emma Taylor said.
"We were grateful to have been awarded the winners for our category and our film was showcased alongside some extraordinary pieces of work created by incredibly talented young people connected to Mandurah.
"Our film represents anxiety as feeling like someone is handcuffed to you, making your everyday life difficult. We filmed this in the heart of Mandurah for young people to relate to and understand that anxiety is actually extremely common.
"We aimed to show that opening up to others about our struggles enables us to help each other work through them and take the burden off one another.
"We are extremely passionate about making these conversations about our mental wellbeing normal and showing the positive impact they can have, and are excited to see what next year brings for the YRG."
