The taste testers at the 2019 Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition have had their say, with Pinjarra Bakery claiming top spot.
In their best-ever award-winning year, Pinjarra Bakery walked away with 14 gold, three silver and one bronze across their range of crowd-pleasing pies.
Pinjarra Bakery creative director Jodie Pantaleo said winning top honours at Australia's most-prestigious pie competition was the pinnacle of their career and 20 years in the making. .
"After taking out the Most Successful Exhibitor Award at both the BIEAWA (Baking Industry Awards) and Perth Royal Show earlier this year, we hoped to finish the year off with a bang at the annual Great Aussie Pie Competition - but we were completely blown away by the results," she said.
"We know our pies are the real deal, but to beat thousands of entries from incredible bakeries across Australia and come out on top - that's no mean feat.
"Our pie masters, Darren Rowe and Paul Pantaleo, have worked hard this year creating amazing flavour combinations with our popular invention pies.
"It's great to finally see their creativity and collaboration with local producers achieve national recognition."
In other tantalising news, Ms Pantaleo said a new bakery could open up in a secret location later in the year.
