A 26-year-old Ravenswood man who was allegedly found flushing methamphetamine down his toilet during a raid which allegedly saw more than $1 million worth of the drug found in his home, has had his bail denied.
Elliott Desmond York appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court via video link from Casuarina Prison on Friday, June 14.
He was not required to enter a plea to several charges, including selling or offering to supply a traffickable quantity of methamphetamine, possessing a controlled weapon and possessing stolen goods.
York's lawyer Fabian Ponton indicated his client would be pleading not guilty to the more serious charge of being in possession of 1.73 kilograms of methamphetamine.
He said the drugs were found in his client's home, but they were not his and there was "no forensic evidence".
Police prosecutor Tamara Read told the court police found York disposing of drugs in his bathroom, with rubber gloves and a smashed bowl nearby, after executing a search warrant on his home about 5.30 pm on April 24.
She said police found 1.73 kilograms of methamphetamine and nine vacuum-sealed bags throughout the home, along with a stolen jet ski and $2000 cash.
A co-accused had also been charged.
Senior Constable Read told the court she "strongly opposed" York's bail application.
"He would be facing a very significant term in prison," she said.
Mr Ponton said York's best friend's dad could put forward surety of $100,000, which would be paid if York did not appear in court while on bail.
He said York was not a flight risk because he did not own a passport and had no connections interstate.
Magistrate Anne Longden refused York's bail application because there was a "strong" case against him.
"He was, essentially, caught red-handed," she said.
He is due to reappear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on August 20 for a police committal mention.
