Halls Head opened their account on the 2019 Peel Football and Netball League season thanks a flurry of goals that buoyed them over Waroona at Spartan Stadium on Sunday.
The Lightning and Demons went toe-to-toe over the first three quarters but Halls Head broke away when Gregory Nelson inspired a five-goal run to lift his side to the win 12.5 (77) to 8.9 (57).
Nelson nailed three of those five final-quarter goals, ending his day with seven majors in a dazzling performance in front of the sticks.
He got started early when he nailed the day's opening major, but Demon Jack Strand booted two of his side's three majors in the first to help Waroona take the lead at quarter time.
The visitors had their chance to stretch that margin in the second but were unable to capitalise on most opportunities, booting just the one goal and four behinds for the term.
Still, solid play from Jeremy Caratti and Zac Moody had the Demons in front at the half.
Halls Head resumed the lead in the third term when Riley Patten-Williams and Danny Smith found the goal, but Waroona clawed back once again with majors to Rocky Caruso, Strand and Aidan Fotheringhame.
The trio secured the Demons an eight-point buffer, but Nelson trimmed it two with a late goal before booting the first of the fourth term to snatch it back.
Ryan Wiltshire's goal would see Waroona respond, but Nelson would nail a further two to separate the teams and put his Lightning en route to victory.
His effort secured him a spot among Halls Head's best, while Andrew Barker and Cameron Gavin also impressed.
Halls Head will face a tough test when they travel to Rockingham next week, while Waroona hits the road to take on Baldivis.
