Guided by Peter Russell’s astonishing bowling figures and Cameron Reyne’s solid knock with the bat, the White Knights cruised to a victory over a struggling Singleton, their 12th on the trot.
Winning the toss and opening with the bat, Baldivis openers Dylan Gray (14) and Wesley Steele (12) started promisingly but were unable to go on for a big score.
Darren Solomon poured in 27 runs coming in at three, but it wasn’t until Reyne entered the game that Baldivis was able to get motoring.
The star batsman took just 68 deliveries to record his 67 runs, with two of his seven boundaries sailing over the rope for six.
His efforts spurred the White Knights to an 8/164 total off their overs, despite Singleton’s Ian Bowes bowling well to finish with 3/25.
From there any hopes the Irwinians had of chasing the total were completely stunted by Russell’s stellar bowling spell.
Greg Roos and Kyle Ralph picked up the important wickets of Danny Woollard and Bryce Evans early, before Russell went on to finish the day at 4/5 from his 6.4 overs, which included three maidens.
His bowling saw Singleton ousted on just 99 runs in the 38th over.
The win sees Baldivis moves two games clear of Mandurah atop the table, while weakening Singleton’s hold on a top four spot as they remain just one win above both Pinjarra and Halls Head.
Shoalwater Bay def. Mandurah
Mandurah’s minor premiership aspirations were dealt a blow when Sebastian Websdale’s six-wicket haul secured a victory for the Seals on Saturday.
Websdale dismantled Mandurah’s batting order with a stunning 6/26, restricting the top-two outfit to just 125 runs with top scores of 20 apiece from Matthew Jenkinson and Sach In.
Chasing 126 for the win the Seals were bolstered by an opening stand of 50 between Nicholas Milligan (20) and Daniel Swain (28), setting them up for a win before Chris D'Alessandro (23) guided them home.
In claimed 4/35 as Mandurah’s best bowler on the day.
Waroona def. Hillman
A spread of wicket-takers and an unbeaten half-century from Nic Rep paved Waroona’s path to a win over Hillman in round 14.
Batting first the Hornets received a game-high 64 runs from Mitchell Hind, but the star went unsupported with no other batsman breaching into double figures with Hillman dismissed on 104 runs.
Waroona responded through Rep’s 55 not out, teaming up with Bevan Bennell (29 not out) and Mitchell Smith (16) to cruise past their required score in just 16.2 overs.
The win (along with Mandurah’s loss) moves Waroona into second spot.
Halls Head def. South Mandurah
Halls Head’s finals hopes are alive and kicking thanks to a win over South Mandurah at Peelwood Reserve over the weekend.
Chris Phelps starred with the ball keeping Souths to just 87 runs with his figures of 4/11 playing a crucial role in the victory.
Chasing just 88 to win Halls Head were off to a shaky start losing a pair of early wickets to sit in a 2/12 hole, but Phelps’ form carried over to his batting as he notched a team-high 24 to see his side past the target with three wickets left in hand.
Matt Hill was the star for South Mandurah, claiming 5/36 with the ball.
Halls Head now sit just shy of a top-four berth as they snap at the heels of Singleton.
Pinjarra def. Warnbro
Four-wicket bags to Jamie Lee and Matt France helped Pinjarra lock down a win in a close game with Warnbro at Sir Ross McLarty Park.
Lee (4/19) and France (4/33) were both in fine form with the ball, doing what they could to shake Warnbro’s order which made its way to 172 runs on the back of opener Ben Doudle’s 46.
The Tigers’ chase was off to a terrible start when opener Aaron Wren was out on a duck, but Jason Poolman’s game-high 49 teamed with contributions from Lee (29) and Kim Eddy (28) to see Pinjarra past the target with six overs left to spare.
The victory has Pinjarra just one win outside the top four.
